Version 1.8.6
Highlights
- Uninstalling the app no longer removes your library, database, or build plates when they were in the default location. They are moved to a folder next to the app first.
- Files the app removes for you now go to the Windows Recycle Bin instead of being deleted outright.
- New Safe mode switch: one line in a settings file and the app will not delete any file, locally or in the cloud, no matter what you click.
- New installs keep their data outside the app's program folder from the start.
What's New
Safety
- Every file the app removes on your behalf now goes to the Recycle Bin: Delete Everywhere, files replaced by an import with Replace and Overwrite Files, archives removed after a successful extraction, hot-folder originals removed after import, duplicates you mark Delete in Find Duplicates, originals removed by Delete originals in File Conversion, the old folder after a library Move…, the source after a move between drives, and sliced files, build-plate attachments, and project attachments you delete. A wrong click or a wrong import setting is now a trip to the Recycle Bin, not lost files. When a location can't use the Recycle Bin (a network share, some removable drives), the file is removed the old way and a line saying so is written to the log.
- Safe mode. Close the app, open
%LOCALAPPDATA%\3DPrintManager\config.jsonin Notepad, add"SafeMode": true,as the first line inside the braces, save, and start the app. While it's on, the app refuses every file deletion: the Delete dialog says "Nothing was deleted", the cloud and local toggles in the details panel snap back with the same message, imports that would replace an existing file skip it, archives are kept after extraction, hot folders keep their originals, and cloud removals are held until you turn Safe mode off. Moves, renames, imports, and uploads work as normal. The app tells you Safe mode is on every time it starts. Remove the line and restart to turn it off. - Uninstall keeps your data. Uninstalling the app used to remove its program folder, and for anyone using the default location that folder also held the library, the database, thumbnails, and build plates. Now, before the uninstaller runs, everything that isn't the program itself is moved to a
3DPrintManager.user-datafolder next to it, with a README explaining what's there and how to get it back. Nothing is deleted. This protection comes with this version, so it only applies to uninstalls done after updating.
Storage
- New installs put their data in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\3DPrintManagerData, outside the program folder. Existing installs are not moved — your library and database stay exactly where they are. - Every folder picker in the app (first-run wizard, Add Drive, Move…, thumbnail storage) now refuses a folder inside the app's program folder and tells you why, since that folder is removed on uninstall.
- If your library or database is still inside the program folder, Settings → Storage → Library Folders marks the row "Removed when you uninstall", and the app reminds you once a week to move it with Move…. Uninstalling is still safe in the meantime; see above.
Improvements
- Delete Local Copy and importing with Keep local files turned off still remove the local file for good rather than recycling it. Their job is to free disk space, and the cloud copy is the recovery path.
- Any file that couldn't be sent to the Recycle Bin is recorded in the log, along with every file removal the app performs.
